Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens

Founded in 1938, Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables is home to more than 3,400 species of plants ranging from exotic tropical fruits to rare water lilies. The stunning gardens span 83 acres and  offers aquatic exhibits in its numerous natural lakes and pools, Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit with 40+ species that create a living rainbow, succulent collections, Children’s Garden, a cafe and more which makes it  one of our five must-visit places in Coral Gables. The botanical gardens also host a variety of special events from Dog Dates at the Garden to the annual Mango Days of Summer. Self-guided tours are currently available.

The Kampong Botanical Gardens

Former estate of Dr. David Fairchild, The Kampong Garden in Coconut Grove was originally a personal collection of plants native to Southeast Asia, Central and South Americas, Caribbean and other tropical locales. The Kampong  evolved into a diverse botanical garden filled with tropical fruits—including more than 50 types of mangos,—flowering trees, vines and shrubs. Self-guided tours through the main house and gardens are currently available.

Gifford Arboretum at University of Miami

The Gifford Arboretum is located on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus and across the way from THesis. The garden houses a collection of plant species used for research and educational purposes. Self-guided visits and annual events are open to the public.

Pinecrest Gardens

Pinecrest Gardens features a variety of tropical and native plant species spanning across 11 acres. Explore diverse landscapes from the Mangrove Forest to the Dry Gardens. Look out for art installations including sculptures, paintings and ceramic benches during your visit. Pinecrest Gardens also hosts a variety of events from jazz performances to plant shows. Self-guided tours are currently available.
